Junior Badminton Report 29.4.10
The Annual Gareth Coppack Memorial Tournament at the Flint Pavilion was another great success with 19 teams taking part. All the teams were handicapped to even out the age and ability differences and contributed to some very close games.
In the Quarters the very strong Prestatyn A team (off -9; Daniel and Hugo Williams, Sophie Wilson, Arjunan Ranjit) beat their B team (off scratch; Ananth Ranjit, Will and Grace Larter, Sophie Overson ) 15-13, 15-10, 15-14; Mold B (off scratch; Kyran Van de Kooij, Owain Sparrow, Dan Jones, Connor Colquhoun) beat Mold C (off +2)15-10, 12-15, 15-10; Connah's Quay A (off -5; Dan Ellis, Sarah Burke, Aled Phillips, Jess Lowrie but missing Welsh U15 Internationals and National champions Ellen Liddle and Isabelle Cain) beat Mold A (off -3; Ryan Humphries, David Palmer, Jack Griffiths, Paul Hardman) 15-8, 15-13, 15-14; Flint A (off -5; Elliot Wheeler, Dan Noble, Alistair McCracken,Connor Clarke )beat Buckley A (off -3; Stewart Brackenbury, Nathan Barron, Calum Sant, Iwan Pullen) 15-7, 15-7 13-15.
In the Semis Prestatyn A beat Mold B 15-9, 15-11, 10-15; Connah's Quay A beat Flint A 15-10, 5-15, 15-6.
In the Final Prestatyn A, despite losing the first game badly 4-15, went on to defeat Connah's Quay A 15-8, 15-12 to crown an excellent day's badminton.
The trophies for both the Tournament, the Sports Personality winners (Jack Southall of Buckley and Ffion Rowlands of Llanferres) and the Junior League were presented by Mrs Irene Coppack.
