Successes for NEW players in Rhyl Junior Satellite

In the U11 boys singles Tomos Sudder (Mold) had a close win in the quarters 21-19 against Aaron Smith (Flint) but played even better to beat Wrexham's Dhruv Bansal 21-14 in the semi; Jack Southall (Mold) beat David McCracken (Flint) 21-16 but met his match in the semi, losing to Jamie Noble (Flint) 15-21. Noble played very steadily in the final to beat Sudder 15-8, 15-10. Noble and Sudder combined very well in the doubles to beat Smith and McCracken 21-13. In the girls singles Anne-Louise Barron (Mold) had a walkover against Gwenno Morris (Prestatyn).

23 boys entered the U13 singles and produced a lot of very close games. In the quarters David Palmer (Mold) beat Will Larter (Prestatyn) 21-11, Kieran Van Der Hooij had a surprise but deserved win 21-14 against Mold club-mate Jack Griffiths but lost to Palmer 15-21 in the semi; Shreen Moodabyle (Conwy) beat Jack Owen (Mold) 21-11, Ewan Cook (Chester) beat Drew Jones (Deeside) 21-12 but lost a very close semi to Moodabyle 19-21. Palmer showed improved form to beat Moodabyle 15-8, 15-6 in the final.

In the doubles semis Cook and Flint's Connor Clark beat Mold's Owain Sparrow and Van Der Kooij 21-9 and Buckley's Iwan Pullen and Callum Sant beat Palmer and Griffiths 21-15. Cook and Clark won the final 15-9, 15-12.

U13 Clark, Cook, Pullen, Sant

In the girls singles quarters Natalie Roberts (Conwy) beat Tonicha Font (Mold) 21-15, Bethan Sudder (Mold) beat Abbie Jennings (Chester) 21-7, Amy Jukes (Castell Alun) beat Emma Paton (Flint) 21-8 and Vicky Rawlings (Shropshire) beat Cerys Brackenbury (Buckley) 21-6. In the semis Sudder beat Roberts 21-15 and Rawlings beat Jukes 21-6. Rawlings won the final 15-5, 15-10. In the doubles Rawlings and Jukes beat Roberts and Alicia Hazelwood (Conwy) 21-11 and Sudder and Font beat Paton and Erin Bailey (Llanferres) 21-12. The final was a really close battle with long and exciting rallies with Rawlings and Jukes coming out on top 15-12, 13-15, 15-11.

There was a good entry in the U15 boys singles. In the quarters Lloyd Martin (Mold) just got the better of Wrexham's Saksham Bansal 22-20, Scott Oates (Deeside) was too consistent and accurate for Mold's Paul Hardman winning 21-11, Prestatyn's Daniel Williams beat brother Hugo 21-15, Dan Ellis (CQ) beat Ananth Ranjit (Prestatyn) 21-6. In the semis Oates raised his game to beat Martin 21-15 and Ellis beat Williams 21-16. Ellis was too strong for Oates winning the final 15-10, 15-8. In the doubles semis the Williams twins beat the Ranjit twins 21-15 and Ellis and Martin beat Oates and Hardman 21-14 and then the final 15-10, 15-12 in a tough battle with Williams and Williams.

There was only a small entry in the U17s. Buckley's Adam Baines continues to improve and won a nail-biting final against Jack O'Reilly (Chester) 21-20. Then he teamed up with O'Reilly to win the doubles 15-5, 15-3 against Wrexham's Matthew Wright and Matthew Morris.
