Badminton Report

Under 17 Triple crown for Daniel Font (Flint) at North West Wales Junior Shuttle Series at Conway.

Playing as an under 15 in the U 17 tournament Daniel won all three events.

In the singles Daniel beat Jonathon Savory (Mold) 21-9, 21-15. Partnering Oliver Gwilt (Powys) he beat Jonathon and Joshua Au Yeung in a terrific see-saw boys doubles, winning the first game   narrowly 29-27 when either side could have clinched it, and the second game 21-16 with a bit to spare. The mixed doubles was even closer. Daniel partnered Georgia Hughes (Conway) and won 10-21, 21-18, 21-17.

In the under 15 Girls singles both Tara Moorcroft (Flint) and Eli Clough (Llanferres) played well but lost in the semi-finals. In the doubles Eli and Daniel Oates (Connahs Quay) got to the final before losing 15-6, 15-6.

In the Boys doubles Jack Coolidge (Mold) and Nathan Stewart (Wrexham) lost 6-21, 9-21 in the final. Danielle partnered   Matthew Vacher (U13) but lost in a great final 10-21, 10-21.

Shires Junior League county matches have started but the teams have been hit by injuries and unavailability.

The U13s lost 0-20 to Cheshire; Matthew Vacher and Tim Kingsnorth did best going   to three games before losing 13-21, 21-15, 12-21. The others fought hard but couldn't manage a win.

The U15s lost 0-20 to Cheshire but took Cumbria to 8-12. Daniel Font was the most successful, winning his singles 21-8, 21-10, both his boys doubles with Chris Owen 21-12, 21-12 and 21-11, 22-20 and the mixed doubles with Tara Moorcroft 21-4, 21-10. Tara also won one very close and exciting girls doubles with Danielle Oates 24-22, 20-22, 21-19. Jack Cooledge and Dan Hardman played very well to win one doubles 21-16, 21-18 and only narrowly lost the other 20-22, 21-11, 21-23.

Four U15s played for the U17s against Cheshire where we lost 2-18. Daniel Font and Jonathon Savory combined very effectively   and battled hard to win both their doubles, 18-21, 21-13, 23-21 and 21-13, 23-21. Joe Travers narrowly lost his singles 14-21, 21-19, 17-21. Danielle Schoneveld lost 11-21, 21-18, 10-21 in her singles.

Flintshire Senior League's matches have started but a number of Clubs are struggling for members eg Caerwys, Airbus, Broughton, Deeside. Any keen badminton players who would like to play matches or just enjoy the social club nights should contact the Secretaries for information – Club details (venue, playing times etc ) are on the NEWRBA website at www.northwalesbadminton.co.uk

. UK   NATIONAL BADMINTON WEEK   takes place from 13 th -21 st October.

Senior and Junior Clubs ( Buckley, Connahs Quay, Deeside, Denbigh, Flint, Holywell, Llanferres, Mold, Northop, Prestatyn, Rhyl, and Ruthin are taking part, playing “crazy” challenges where pairs of players try to break the world record of the number of shots hit across the net in a minute.  

Connahs Quay are going “mad”!
