Annual Cup and Plate competition provided one-sided results for Seniors
In the Challenge Cup, favourites Flint (-16) found the difference in handicaps against Deeside (scratch) too difficult to handle. Deeside played a splendid attacking game throughout and kept errors to a minimum especially when Flint were serving.
Deeside were 6-2 up after the mixed doubles. In the top match Ashley Oxborough and Belinda Jones won 15-12, 15-4. In the second match Flint's Damian Renshaw and Carla White played brilliantly to level the scores beating Gareth Burroughes and Nat Beard 15-4, 15-0. Then Christian Pistor and Jill Povey won 15-8,15-12 and Gareth Thomas and Melissa Caswell won 15-6, 15-7.
In the first ladies doubles Jones and Caswell won 15- -16, 15- -16 against Carla White and Hannah Stephenson when Hannah twisted her ankle and had to retire. Beard and Povey won 15-3, 15-2.
At first mens doubles Pistor and Oxborough won convincingly 15- -3, 15-2. Then injury struck Deeside when Thomas, partnering Burroughes, strained his back and had to concede 0-15, 0-15.
Final; result was a terrific win 12-4 for Deeside, below.
In the Plate Final Rossett (-3) handed out an equally comprehensive defeat 12-4 to Holywell (scratch).
At top mixed doubles Simon Lane and Sue Lord won 15-8, 15-11. Then Mark Lovatt and Mel Howe halved 7-15, 15-12, Peter Watkins and Jeanette Davies won 15-7, 15-9 and Neil Pritchard and Lisa Howe halved 15-8, 7-15. Rossett 6-2 up and looking good.
In the ladies doubles Lord and Mel Howe won 15-8, 15-6 but Davies and Lisa Howe only halved 5-15, 15-7.
In the mens doubles Lane and Lovatt won 15-4, 15-7 but Watkins and Pritchard halved 11-15, 15-9.
Holywell played with great fight and determination but Rossett, pictured below, proved too steady and powerful and had command of most matches.
Thanks to John Sprake and his committee for organising another successful and exciting competition.
