NORTH WALES BADMINTON

Prestigious Award for Connah's Quay Badminton Club

CQ is the first club in Wales to be awarded the WBU Silver Accreditation. To achieve this honour CQ has to satisfy a wide range of criteria.

The club is run by a team of volunteers and has a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Child Welfare Officer, WBU registered Coaches and Umpire and First Aiders.

The club enjoys the first class playing conditions of the Deeside College sports hall. Membership of the senior club (Tuesday and Friday) is currently 19 seniors and 11 juniors (14-19) and the junior club (Friday) has attendances of 20-30, mostly under 13. As the juniors improve they are encouraged to join the senior club. Four of the best 19 year olds (former County players and members of national squads) have recently left to go to University.

The club runs 3 senior teams (2 in the Flintshire League and 1 in the Chester League and 3-4 teams in the Junior League and both seniors and juniors regularly support the local tournaments. A number of juniors are in the North East Wales squads.

Coaches and Juniors

Currently there are six coaches some of whom are currently upgrading to the new UKCC awards and all have their CRB checks. At least one attends the annual WBU coaching conference in Cardiff. Members also assist in the North East Wales coaching groups or running county teams.
